Introduction

The exhibition Schuß-Gegenschuß uses three different formats: wallpaper, film and photography. The exhibition layout was specially conceived with a view to optimal reception of these three formats. The predominant interests of RothStauffenberg revolve around phenomena such as the ‘interchangeability’ of individual semantic units, images or sounds on the one hand and ‘encoding’ on the other, and enjoy playing with contextualized references. Only a coding literacy of each kind allows for a liberating game with new meanings. The smallest and most meaningless unit of determination of images and sounds is the main instrument of this exhibition: the time code represents, so to speak, the matrix (wallpaper) on which references are played.
