Art Basel Unlimited 2026

With Tuan Andrew Nguyen

For Art Basel Unlimited, Esther Schipper and James Cohan present Repercussions, a new monumental outdoor sculpture by Tuan Andrew Nguyen.

Made from unexploded ordnances (UXOs) recovered from central Vietnam, the matte black architectural work bridges past and present by repurposing remnants of war as objects of healing.

The work’s arches echo images of tracer fire and the limestone hills surrounding Chùa Hương. This region in Viet Nam is known for the Perfume Pagoda, a historic Buddhist pilgrimage site between Hanoi and Huế. The artist’s grandmother, Ðặng Thị Lạc, a poet and former newspaper editor, had once sought shelter there and brought the artist to visit during his first return to Vietnam in 1998.

Suspended from the arches are three UXOs, polished to a mirror finish and, working with sound healers, transformed into bells.
