Jac Leirner He and He and He and He and He and He and He and He and He, 2016
In this series of photographs, small, surreal sculptures carved from lumps of cocaine, including a beautiful miniature head and a tiny heart are juxtaposed with objects found around the artist’s house, such as dice, razor blades and tweezers.
The photographs have their origins in the mid 1990s when Leirner began to keep the ephemera and objects, some of which are associated with her addiction to drugs. Gathered over several years, the objects used in these works were assembled and photographed during a cocaine binge over three nights in 2010.
